SOM FACTORY
SOM products have been produced in partnership with factories in Japan and overseas.
SOM has worked with each factory with a strong belief and sense of responsibility in manufacturing, but we wanted to put even more passion into each and every one of them.
So in 2021, SOM established a reel assembly factory and has been improving component precision and assembly techniques through reel after-sales service and limited edition reel production.
Dynamic Gear
Previously, the aim was to maximize the module, manufacture gears with cutting machines, and create gears with high transmission efficiency.
In order to pour passion into the gears, which are the heart of the reel, just like SOM FACTORY, we deepened the collaboration between SOM engineers, cutting machines, and gear manufacturing factories, and built a gear cutting environment with a dedicated SOM line.
The goal was to have the teeth of the drive gear and pinion gear touch softly and transmit the force to the entire tooth surface without losing force.
The sound generated at this time is called "white noise" and is technically noise, but SOM
positions this white noise as a sound quality that anglers find comfortable and powerful as a dynamic feeling, and after repeated trial and error, we have completed "Dynamic Gear".
In addition, the sound of this gear when it is shipped from the factory will change to a sound that responds to the user's reeling style as the cutting edges become smoother to an invisible degree with repeated use.
Further refining the Ohta Garage model
OGM is looking for lightweight, high sensitivity, and we have pursued further operability and durability.
In pursuit of Ota Garage's philosophy, the materials and shapes of each part create lightweight and high sensitivity, and compared to the standard BHL100, we have reviewed the details to a level that is almost like a new design.
The result is a performance that transmits various minute information from the line from the spool to the handle knob without any delay or attenuation. Operability that makes full use of these. Furthermore, we have increased the durability around the rotating shaft, allowing you to experience the highest level of finish in the history of Blue Heaven.
Compact Gearbox
The main shaft bearing design and the use of a crank arm that is the first of its kind have made the reel foot 3mm more compact than the standard model.
Despite being a wide spool model, it boasts outstanding reel operability.
L-shape carbon drag lever
The lever has been enlarged to accommodate the longer arm, and the carbon plate has been machine cut to reduce weight.
The aluminum base material is made using a Japanese carpentry technique called sickle joint, which has been achieved without screws and without rattle.
Lead Design
The outer edge of the gearbox has an irregular shape, allowing you to intuitively grasp the lever position without having to look at the reel.
Lever Brake System
The range of motion from the FREE position to the MIN position is wider than that of the standard model. This cam setting allows for delicate brake control just before the MIN position where the drag washer and disc come into contact.
Newly designed 105mm crank handle
By custom-laminating high-elasticity 36-ton carbon, we have increased the bending and torsional rigidity to the limit, and this crank design is the first of its kind.In addition, we have reviewed the trend toward longer handlebars and adopted a 105mm length that is optimized for the jerk width/winding amount.
Asymmetrical frame
The diameter of the right plate, which houses the drag mechanism and gears, and the diameter of the left plate, which prioritizes palming, are different, and STUDIO OCEANMARK's unique asymmetrical frame is used for this machine-cut reel.
Dynamic gear design/stainless steel
We have evolved the mountain module gear, which maximizes the module and achieves powerful winding efficiency.
Winding efficiency has been improved by reviewing the tooth profile, designing a special hob, and finishing the tooth surface by craftsmen.
2 bearing pinion gear
The pinion gear has a dual-bearing design consisting of an angular contact ball bearing and a radio ball bearing that are resistant to lateral pressure, which reduces 3D vibration of the pinion gear and transmits the powerful rotational force of the handle to the spool.
Angular contact bearing with waterproof cap
A rubber cap is installed to encase the angular contact ball bearing, preventing seawater from entering from the inside of the reel, achieving dramatic durability.
12mm one-way bearing/large diameter bearing/oil seal
It boasts a stronger reverse load than two in-line one-way clutch bearings with an inner diameter of 10 mm. A large diameter radial ball bearing and a waterproof oil seal are placed in between this one-way clutch bearing.
64 titanium parts (12mm main shaft/spool shaft/handle rivet)
The luxurious main shaft, which is machined down to 12mm from a thick rod, and the spool shaft/handle rivets are all made from 64 titanium parts.
Titanium alloy parts (reel foot/handle bolt)
The reel foot is made of high-rebound alloy titanium, and the handle bolt is also made of alloy titanium, making the reel lightweight by using the most appropriate materials.
Simple waterproof spool
By attaching a waterproof cover to the spool cap, the rubber does not come into contact with the spool when the reel is free, ensuring spool-free performance, and when reeling, the waterproof cover comes into contact with the spool to protect the bearings from seawater.
AE100/Cork/Carbon Cap
*Cork is a light and sensitive material, but it is also weak. It is strongly attached to the knob core, but please note that if you continue to apply force in the twisting direction, the cork material will be destroyed.
